Looking for which beauty skin care product is right for you? If you’ve done a search online you’ll realize that there are millions of products and pages all vying for your dollar so it can be hard to tell which ones are right for you and your skin type – especially as it seems that every week a new crazy ingredient has been added that just ‘guarantee’s’ that you’ll be wrinkle free, acne free, blemish free – and of course these products are never ‘free’. ;)

So let’s get back to basics and look at what is really important in beauty skin care products.

Let’s start with the humble cleanser

There are many types of skin cleansers all with different ingredients claiming that they’ll do a better job and cleaning your skin than then next product. But I’m going to break one huge myth right here and that is – you probably don’t need separate cleansers for different skin types.

All a cleanser really does is clean the face – duh! And soap is soap as they say. Its job is taking of makeup, grime and pollution, and oil from the face. Of course face cleansers are much milder than regular soap so don’t for one minute think I’m going to recommend you use cheap old body soap – it will dry out your skin too much.

But as to skin types – apart from buying a special one if you have sensitive skin that is prone to dermatitis – most beauty cleansers are pretty much the same. Just experiment with a few types and brands until you find one that you like. I actually use a creamy cleanser made for oily skin because I like the texture and fragrance and I have a dry face!

Now onto Toner

There are a lot of misconceptions about what a toner product is used for and many people don’t even use it at all (I don’t use it as much as I should – naughty me).

What a toner is actually for is restoring the skin’s acid mantle to normal again. After you use a cleanser or any soap on your skin your pH levels change. A toner’s job is to restore your acidity level back to normal. And that is it’s only function. It doesn’t close pores as some people think (your pores are actually very slow at moving – it takes months for them to change size as anyone who has large pores will attest to).

So after cleansing, the next step in your beauty routine should be to restore the skin to normal again using a toner.

As a side note – it’s actually more important for those faces that are prone to break-outs or infections (such as cold sores) to use a toner than normal skin types as they are the ones that really need their skin returned to normal levels.

Again just choose a toner that you like – alcohol free ones are the best.

And Finally Moisturizer

This is where you probably will have to spend some money – although that isn’t always the case. There is a lot of difference in the quality of moisturizers and usually you will have to pay a bit more if you want a product that is going to be effective.

A moisturizers role is to restore your face’s moisture levels and plump up the cells. Some moisturizers can even help plump out fine lines and wrinkles so it gives you the appearance of looking much younger.

No matter what they tell you – no moisturizer will reverse the aging process – but they can help delay it.

I probably sound very vague here – because I haven’t told you which product you should buy – but that’s because there are so many different factors that come into play. Not only your skin care type (dry, normal, oily, sensitive) but also budget, lifestyle and preference.

What I will say is this – you can get away with buying the cheapest budget options for your cleanser and toner but you should really invest in a good moisturizer if you want to look beautiful and flawless for the longest possible time.

Also make sure your day moisturizer contains sunscreen as this can help prevent further wrinkles – and prevention is much easier than trying to get rid of them at a later date.

Soon I’ll go into other beauty skin care products such as exfoliaters, serums, eye creams and let you know which one’s you really need. (Hint: it’s less than you think).
